Alejandro Bonilla

Hi, I’m Alejandro Bonilla. I’ve spent more than 24 years in enterprise infrastructure, and most of that time with Linux.

My career started in support. At Intel I tested Centrino wireless platforms and helped get native wireless drivers into the mainline Linux kernel. After that came Cisco and HPE. In 2008 I joined Novell, which later became part of SUSE. I’ve been at SUSE ever since: support engineer and instructor in Prague and Spain, then technical strategist and sales engineer on the US East Coast, and today Domain Solution Architect for AI and cloud native infrastructure across North and Latin America.

Day to day, I design platforms that run virtual machines and containers side by side: Kubernetes, Rancher, RKE2, KubeVirt and Harvester, with NVIDIA vGPU, MIG and BlueField DPUs underneath. I also help build reference architectures with hardware partners such as Dell, HPE, Lenovo and Fujitsu.

Why this blog

Most of what I learn comes from breaking and fixing real hardware in my home lab: DGX Sparks, Jetson Orins, Ampere servers, Harvester clusters, Ceph and Longhorn storage, and a few too many network cables. Each post documents something I got working, with the configs, numbers and dead ends included, so you don’t have to rediscover them.

Elsewhere

I speak English and Spanish natively, some French, and a little Czech.
